How to delete the C drive, action blocked, not allowed

The format is a particular task.

If you reached this post you're probably a beginner, not as a user of PC but from the point of view of PC technology.

If you try to format the C drive and Windows (or any other operating system) is running, the system itself prevents the deletion of your disk.

This is natural, normal and obvious as the "formatting" is equivalent to replacing a PC (or at least to the total removal and subsequent recovery) of an engine to a car, so while the car is running it is impossible to perform similar operations, block to the first bolt is loose or disconnected wire.

The solution is to use the CD / DVD of the operating system and boot (to boot) the PC directly from the CD / DVD. The external support may be labeled as:

  • DISK OPERATING SYSTEM
  • RESCUE DISK
  • DISC SUPPORT
  • DISK BOOT

If the computer is a laptop or a desktop marked, for example, HP or Acer or ASUS ... or any brand widespread in the package with which it was purchased there should also be the disk (or disks, can also be 3 - 4 discs).

In special cases the recovery discs can be absent if:

  • the system is pre-loaded on the machine and there is a hidden partition which shall restore the PC due to operating system problems;
  • the system uses pirated software, the vendor of PC you have delivered a system without the necessary licenses for the program.

In the first case, in theory, at this early days of using Windows, the system should have asked several times to create a set of recovery disks, if you have not done so should be checked the user manual of the PC / NB and its pre-installed programs that allow you to create this SET (works until you mistakenly formatted your PC or you will damage your internal hard disk). An example of programs designed to create the SYSTEM SET are eRecovery for Acer, and eMachines, Recovery ... HP and ASUS.

In the second case the situation is more difficult and requires the purchase of a Windows license or a switch to a free operating system (like the hundreds of versions of Linux including Ubuntu point out). I look forward to information (make and model of your PC and if the recovery disks).
