change the permissions to all files in windows (documents and settings and users)
Dedicated to the system administrator.
Have you ever had access to a HDD attacking the fly to your workstation and find that you have to waste time on time, minutes and minutes to change the permissions of all files, all of the directories (folders) of a user who has set the their data private?
And maybe there is some urgency because the person who set the documents as private is your customer now has to recover data quickly, having shattered his windows installation, because it needs it NOW! ![]()
The solution is here! Works with all versions of NTFS that are used today (both Windows 2000, both with XP and the newest Windows Vista and 7).
It's called TakeControlOf and works in the "dos".
Once downloaded the file (which is nothing if a script), you must copy it, for our convenience, in the root of the hard disk where you can find the files and directories to which we must change the permissions.
You must now open the MS-DOS prompt with one of these methods:
Windows 2000 + Windows XP + Windows Server 2003
start -> run -> type cmd and press ENTER
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt (or MS-DOS prompt)
Windows Vista + Windows 7 + Windows Server 2008
Start -> type cmd and hold down Ctrl + Shift press ENTER (making sure you select the command CMD)
(The CTRL + SHIFT operation is intended to give administrative rights)
Even Windows 2008 Vista/7/Server can open the "Run", is almost useless in this case, but you can easily open by pressing the Windows key + R. Opening run, however, have problems with the operation of the UAC, so it is not recommend a procedure.
Once you open the MS-DOS prompt, the procedure is simple:
x: \ ObjectName TakeControlOf.cmd
Where X is the drive and ObjectName is the directory (or folder) or file to which we must change the permissions.
The operation is recursive, then it will be applied to all objects in the directory and all subdirectories, and is practically irreversible (can not remember or know all to well the permissions of files and directories as an installation of windows is not running! ), nothing serious, but keep in mind that when we are going to change all the permissions of the entire contents of a hard drive system, this will be much more vulnerable and less attentive to privacy.
Obviously has no function in the case of FAT or FAT32 file systems.
