hello I bought a HP PAVILION DV 8000
a few years ago, and always gives me problems that you now list: when the PC is connected with the power supply you see the screen very well, when unplug the power cord and therefore works only with its original battery, the screen loses at least a 20% brightness, especially from the left side of the same.
I passed today by a center in Varese assistenzahp in via Rossini, but they told me to address you HP!!
can you give me news about this flaw in my notebook and what should I do to solve my problem?

For your problem, for the avoidance of doubt, I tell you is that it lowers the screen brightness level only for a discussion of optimization of the battery? Let me explain: when the notebook is on AC power does not bother to save energy and therefore if it is set to give maximum brightness, so does. If you go to save energy, some models are set by default to save power and thus increase battery life in an automatic way, an ingredient that absorbs more power ... and it is unnecessary, it is the screen then the program puts energy savings that component and it shows "darker".

The causes are many, the most likely (as the fly without seeing anything) is that there has been some virus that hit the system files and installed them as soon as the virus has deleted or quarantined. Unfortunately it is not for immediate termination. Another cause could be a broken off and in these cases can be solved with a scan of the disk (scandisk).
